My Journey to Holistic Wellness...

Have you ever felt your best was not good enough, your continued actions to advance were stalled or worse yet blocked, or your intellectual deliverables were discounted rather or worse, attributed to someone else?  But on top of all that, your overall healthy feelings were being evaded. That was my burnout story at its lowest point.  I was a change management and process improvement consultant for most of my career at the top consulting firms.  I traveled every week, and yes, at first, it was fun to whisk away on a new adventure each week.  I worked and traveled throughout Europe, over 46 countries, for ten years. I have traveled to every state in North America...multiple times.  I love and continue to love what I do at the core, simply helping people improve their lives and careers.

The turning point in my story happened while working on a highly stressful transformation project. Excessive travel was the major contributor to my diminished work/life balance, which included over twenty hours of flight/drive time weekly on top of 70+ hour weeks. I was also bombarded with insecure executive leaders who appropriated my intellectual property and bifurcated racial undertones that made me feel unsafe and devalued.  I felt I was managing the stress, but it was breaking my body down. The compounded stress led to serious health issues.  As I lay recovering from surgery years later, I had time to replay the events that brought me to this place and vowed to make a lasting change.

I started by de-prioritizing those things that drained my overall health and replaced them with things that added to my overall health & mental well-being: physical activity, nutrition, and career restructuring.  After viewing a documentary entitled, “Forks over Knives” I had to ponder what I was told in grade school “…you are what you eat!”  I began a quest to turn my life around.  I found a nutrition class that blew me away within the first few months.  With my newfound knowledge regarding food, its sources, our body system, and the resulting outcomes of our interaction with food to support our wellness, I was hooked. The lightbulb was bright, and within three months, I changed how and what I ate, gradually moving from highly processed to organic foods.  Sidebar: I am not perfect, and I still struggle in some areas, specifically when it comes to Pizza, but making better ingredient choices has made all the difference. Food is integral to each of us and has deep cultural meanings. This propelled me to become a board-certified Health Wellness professional.

I see now what I innately felt before the dots were connected for me being a high-powered and driven professional woman of color traversing the corporate environment. I am not unique; many others maintain this type of engagement daily, and it could also ruin their health.  The good news is that you don’t have to choose between one or the other; it only requires a conscientious decision to develop a plan of action to attain your goal. Having a supportive partner in the journey makes all the difference in the world!

I would be honored if you allowed me to work with you on your journey to achieve your holistic wellness goals. Many things have changed in my professional life; however, one constant in my new life’s focus is helping people improve their lives and careers based on wellness.

Why coaching and the difference between therapy:

They both offer critical support to individuals

I am a firm believer that if you feel you have unresolved matters and childhood events that prevent you from feeling whole and reaching a ‘neutral’ set point, identify a licensed therapist who will help you resolve those matters. However, once you have reached ‘neutral’ and are ready to move “north of neutral,” I am here to partner with you to reach your life, career, and wellness goals.

I have had to traverse multiple events in my life such as the death of loved ones, career setbacks, health challenges, and the emotional trauma that each brings, however, when I felt whole and reached a ‘neutral’ state I was ready to move forward. I struggled to find someone who could take me ‘north of neutral’ using holistic life principles.  As I built my future-focused muscles, I enjoyed assisting others. What started as a career and life-focused coaching discussion among disparate individuals stuck in reaching their goals has blossomed. Those partnerships developed into a full coaching practice that included nutrition and wellness.

My journey to holistic wellness was an easy addition to my practice. Once I learned how the connection was truly a lifestyle change for enhancement, not discrete actions.  If you are like I was but now feel ready to begin building the future-focused you holistically, let’s begin a coaching partnership today that moves you ‘north of neutral’!
